my female cat has a small discharge..help?
my cat has been fixed and all of a sudden when we picked her up she wiped a gross smelling discharge from her vagina on me. what do we do? is it a yeast infection, can cats even have a yeast infection? and we want to do as much as possible at home before taking her to a vet, thanks
I’m sorry but take her to vet. Immediately.
There’s a low chance that spayed females can still get something called pyometra (in this case, a stump pyometra) which is when the uterus (or remaining portion of the uterus) fills up with a bacteria infested pus. Unfortunately, if left untreated this condition is 100% fatal as it essentially poisons the poor girl from the inside out. For that reason alone, I’d say its best not to wait regardless of how slim the chances are.
Now, that said there’s a lot of things that could cause it. Does she go outside? Do you have any other pets? If so, check out her rear end for any wounds or lumps. Nasty smelling pus can also be a sign of an abscess that would need to be drained and cleaned out, followed by a round of antibiotics so infection doesn’t spread.
There’s no such thing as overreacting when it comes to your own health, or the health of a beloved pet.
