Skin Yeast Infections

How to relieve itching for dog with yeast infection of the skin?

I found a dog running loose yesterday as I was walking home. He’s a really friendly dog but he looks horrible. He has big patches of thick, scaly skin, yellow skin as well as wounds and scabs. It’s almost all over him and he’s scratching a lot, clearly miserable. I’ve seen dogs with yeast infections of the skin before so I’m quite sure that’s what it is. His symptoms are pretty classic. I’m hoping to get him to the vet tomorrow but I may not be able to go until Tuesday and I’d really like to give him some relief until then. Is there anything I can get OTC that would give him some relief from the itching? Would antifungal creams help? Any tips would be appreciated.
I’ve given him a bath since he was also filthy but it doesn’t seem to have given him any relief.

FYI, I am looking for his owners but judging from the way he looks I don’t think anyone cares about him enough to look for him.

Thanks.

Call a vet and get the proper dosing for benadryl over the phone when you make the appoinment for him. Benadryl is safe for dogs and will relive the itching but will also make him drowsy.

You can gelty rub aloe to relieve itching as well but you have to be sure he won’t lick it off.
