Yeast Infection On Chest

yeast infection on chest
Our daschund is going bald!?

Our families pet dachshund is a very old dog. The Vet says around 8-10 dog year. On a recent trip the vet said she had a yeast infection, but lately I’ve noticed she is also loosing fur. She doesn’t have fleas or anything but I’m wondering if it’s time for another vet visit. The bald spots are around her ears, on her chest, and on her legs. Does anyone know whats the matter?

An 8 to 10 year old dachshund is barely middle aged – most certainly not old. Dachshunds regularly live to 16 or 17 – and sometimes longer.
Small dogs like dachshunds live a lot longer than big dogs and my 2 shepherds lived to be nearly 18.

There is a reason for your dog’s hair loss – and, yes, please get the poor thing to the vet to find out that reason.

I have 6 dachshunds, 5 of my own and a foster right now – 2 are 10, 2 are 7 — and none of them have any hair loss. If they did, I would be looking for the reason at the vet’s.

By the way, if it is the yeast infection causing the hair loss, which one of my dogs did have 2 years ago (a 3 year old dog, by the way), my vet recommended Myconozol, which is the active ingredient in Vagisil, plus shampoo the dog every other day for a week with a good dandruff shampoo, then twice a week, then once, until it was gone.

I thought he was nuts, but it worked – the yeast infection is cured by the ingredients in those items – but first make sure that’s the reason for the hair loss.
